Background of the Study
Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has taken a proactive role in addressing urban environmental issues, including flood control, which has become a pressing challenge for many areas in the FCT, including Kwali. Kwali, located in the FCT, is prone to flooding due to poor drainage systems, inadequate infrastructure, and urbanization-related environmental degradation. Wike’s leadership in the FCT has focused on improving urban infrastructure, including flood mitigation measures, drainage systems, and environmental sustainability.

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the flood control measures implemented by Wike in Kwali. His administration has emphasized infrastructural upgrades that include improving drainage, building flood barriers, and raising public awareness about environmental responsibility. This study will explore the effectiveness of these measures in reducing flood risks, protecting lives and property, and improving the overall quality of life in Kwali, FCT.

Statement of the Problem
Despite various flood control efforts in the FCT, Kwali remains susceptible to seasonal flooding, which has affected residents and the local economy. The impact of flood control measures introduced by Nyesom Wike’s administration needs to be critically assessed. There is a need to evaluate whether these measures have successfully reduced flooding, prevented damage to infrastructure, and improved residents’ safety in Kwali.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the effectiveness of Nyesom Wike’s flood control measures in Kwali, FCT.

  2. To examine the impact of flood control measures on the reduction of flooding in Kwali.

  3. To evaluate the long-term sustainability of Wike’s flood control measures in Kwali.

Research Questions

  1. How effective have Nyesom Wike’s flood control measures been in reducing flooding in Kwali, FCT?

  2. What impact have flood control measures had on residents’ safety and infrastructure in Kwali?

  3. To what extent are the flood control measures in Kwali sustainable in the long run?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Nyesom Wike’s flood control measures have significantly reduced flooding in Kwali, FCT.

  2. Wike’s flood control measures have improved residents’ safety and reduced property damage in Kwali.

  3. The flood control measures implemented in Kwali are sustainable in the long term.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on Nyesom Wike’s flood control measures specifically in Kwali, FCT. It will examine the effectiveness, impact on safety, and long-term sustainability of the flood control initiatives. The study will be limited to Wike’s leadership as the FCT Minister and will not include flood control measures outside his tenure.

Definitions of Terms
