Background of the Study
Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has taken a proactive role in addressing urban environmental issues, including flood control, which has become a pressing challenge for many areas in the FCT, including Kwali. Kwali, located in the FCT, is prone to flooding due to poor drainage systems, inadequate infrastructure, and urbanization-related environmental degradation. Wike’s leadership in the FCT has focused on improving urban infrastructure, including flood mitigation measures, drainage systems, and environmental sustainability.
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the flood control measures implemented by Wike in Kwali. His administration has emphasized infrastructural upgrades that include improving drainage, building flood barriers, and raising public awareness about environmental responsibility. This study will explore the effectiveness of these measures in reducing flood risks, protecting lives and property, and improving the overall quality of life in Kwali, FCT.
Statement of the Problem
Despite various flood control efforts in the FCT, Kwali remains susceptible to seasonal flooding, which has affected residents and the local economy. The impact of flood control measures introduced by Nyesom Wike’s administration needs to be critically assessed. There is a need to evaluate whether these measures have successfully reduced flooding, prevented damage to infrastructure, and improved residents’ safety in Kwali.
